Featured Member of the Month (Feb. 2022): Keith Moore

Wednesday, February 23, 2022   (1 Comments)

AVLS Member Dr. Keith Moore, DABVLM, RPVI, RVT, RPhS, RVT, RVS, CLT-LANA, WCC, has been an active member of the Society since 2014. Dr. Moore obtained his medical degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine and completed his residency in the Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Dept. of Surgery in Brooklyn, New York. He is board-certified with the American Board of Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

How and why did you start practicing in the field of vein care?

I began treating veins in 2012. I was In general surgery practice, and a friend who had begun treating veins invited me to observe him perform a laser ablation procedure, which I found very interesting. Mainly because of the technology and immediate patient satisfaction. I incorporated EVLA into my own practice and began attending the IVC in Miami with Jose Almeda. He made a great case for becoming a phlebologist, and my enthusiasm grew exponentially. I stopped my general surgery practice and joined the venous and lymphatic medicine world full time, joining Vein Atlanta with Dr. Louis Prevosti. He is a supreme technician and previously was a well-respected cardiothoracic surgeon. My training was exceptional.

When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my teenage son, playing tennis, scuba diving, weight lifting, biking, and long-range rifle shooting.

How long have you been a member of the AVLS and why did you decide to join?

I have been a member of the AVLS since 2014. And I have been a senior member for a couple of years now. I decided to join because I found a plethora of easily accessible information, both in educational and direct clinical information, that has added to my knowledge of venous and lymphatic medicine.

In what ways has the AVLS helped you as a physician?

The courses AVLS offers helped me obtain my ABVLM status, my RPVI, RVT, RVS, and RPhS. I also found encouragement to seek my CLT-LANA and WCC certifications. The Society has also put me in contact with like-minded individuals who enjoy excellence in treating patients with venous and lymphatic disease.

Any advice for providers new to the field?

I think getting credentialed by the ABVLM and joining the AVLS and other professional organizations add significantly to a person’s knowledge base and generate a lot of personal enthusiasm toward the pursuit of excellence, as well as demonstrating an added level of commitment to the art to the public.

What resources does the AVLS provide that would benefit them?

There are many. Regional and national educational conferences, as well as hands-on workshops, the ability to connect directly with more seasoned and experienced experts in the field. Mentorship, as well as the online reference library, and CME to name a few, such as ePass.

Dr. Moore is an exemplary physician and surgeon in many ways. He always has the patient's best interest as his guiding light. He is also driven to learn new fields and skills, as is his long list of certifications attests.
