How and why did you start practicing in the field of vein/lymphatic care?
In 2007, I started working for Dr. Stephen Daugherty as a Vascular Sonographer in his Vascular Lab. I have always been intrigued by the vascular system and I knew early on in my career that this is what I wanted to practice in. How long have you been a member of the AVLS and why did you decide to join?I have been a member of AVLS since 2012 as I wanted to learn as much as I could about the venous and lymphatic systems. The more knowledge I gained, the more it would help me with patient care.
In what ways has the AVLS helped you as a vein/lymphatic care provider? As I continue to learn more about the vein/lymphatic systems, it helps me to provide better care for my patients. It is professionally satisfying to meet and connect with other health care workers who are just as passionate about patient care and opportunities for growth in this field.
Any advice for your peers new to the field?Learn as much as you can and stay connected and informed. Be flexible to modify your approaches. Take constructive criticism as a positive to help you grow.
What resources does the AVLS provide that would benefit them?Phlebology Journal and annual meetings to help your knowledge base. The Hands-On Workshop at the annual meetings is great to learn how to scan the venous system of the lower extremities and pelvis.
When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?I spend a lot of time with my beautiful grandchildren. I also love to ride horses, hunt, and fish.
