How and why did you start practicing in the field of vein/lymphatic care?
I was trained in the treatment of varicose veins as an IR fellow and began practicing in our vein clinic in 2012. I currently spend about 50% of my time in our outpatient vein clinic.
How long have you been a member of the AVLS and why did you decide to join?
I have been a member of AVLS since only 2022! I was seeking a more thorough resource for the management of complex venous disease and really needed more resources in terms of discourse with colleagues and education.
In what ways has the AVLS helped you as a vein/lymphatic care provider?
AVLS has been invaluable to me in terms of education, both live and online, and networking. The Annual Congress is a highly focused, deep dive into all things venous; I learn so much each time I attend. Also, I have found mentors with whom I am able to
discuss complex patients, new technologies, collaborations with industry, and research ideas.
Any advice for your peers new to the field?
Get involved! Find a committee, volunteer for a new role, participate in online discussion forums.
What resources does the AVLS provide that would benefit them?
AVLS provides physician members with endless educational opportunities, extremely useful practice guidelines, and the opportunity to network with colleagues whether in person at meetings or online via the Doc Matter forum.
When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not at work, I love to hike, ski and travel with my husband and two daughters.
