How and why did you start practicing in the field of vein/lymphatic care?
I am a Double Board-Certified Interventional Radiologist. The most rewarding part of my career is getting to know my patients and seeing the improvement I can make in their lives. During training and early in my career I always loved challenging venous procedures. Working in a hospital, I found patient interaction lacking and I generally met patients for the first time just before a procedure and had little follow-up with them after. I had a profound desire to forge more meaningful connections with my patients. When a position became available at Miller Vein, the most reputable local vein practice, I jumped at the opportunity.
How long have you been a member of the AVLS and why did you join?
I shifted my career to focus primarily on venous and lymphatic disease in the latter half of 2022 and joined the AVLS in 2024. I have found the AVLS to be an excellent place to help with this transition. The AVLS has provided me with outstanding resources to expand my knowledge, opportunities to connect with colleagues and a platform to express my ideas.
In what way has the AVLS helped you as a vein/lymphatic care provider?
The AVLS provides many resources, which not only help keep me up to date with the standard of care in the treatment of venous and lymphatic medicine, but also with new cutting-edge advancements in the field. I take pride in being a part of one of the premier societies in my chosen specialty.
Any advice for your peers new to the field?
I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for all my mentors. I recommend that anyone getting started in this field find a good mentor and learn from their wealth of knowledge and skills. Also, it is important to listen to your patients, make sure that they understand vein disease and develop a treatment plan that will best serve them. It is truly amazing the type of impact we can have on our patient's quality of life.
What resources does the AVLS provide that would benefit them?
The AVLS provides access to journal articles, live/online courses, hands-on training, and networking opportunities.
When you are not at work, how do you spend your time?
When I am not at work, my priority is spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy the outdoors, playing tennis, golf or going for a run. My favorite sport to watch is football, primarily cheering on the Detroit Lions and my alma mater, the University of Michigan.
